27-Feb-2015 Update

So the focus has moved to the inside of the house.  All the electrical wires, gas and water pipes in the walls need to be in place before the plasterboard can be fitted.   Work in this vain is progressing well.

John the electrician has now run the bulk of the wiring throughout the house.  Dave the plumber has run a pile of water pipes and gas pipes.  Still a bit to do on the plumbing side so some walls will need to remain open for the time being.  Brett has been busy adding trimmers to the walls where ever a tap is to be mounted.

This and some extra carpentry bits have kept us pretty busy.  The 3 cavity sliding door frames have been fitted and are ready to have plasterboard added.  The bulkhead over the breakfast bar has been built (essentially where the raked ceiling marries back into the main roof line and ceiling).

We needed to move a bunch of plasterboard that was leaning on the end wall of the granny flat to fit some power points and this wall was also the inlet from the gas bottles and also houses the gas hot water unit for the granny flat end.  It was all kinds of random sizes so rather than just moving it to another pile we determined which walls the sheets were destined for and we installed them.  So there is now a bunch of random sheets fitted around the house.  This also involved sorting through the insulation so we can start putting that in as well.

We are now looking forward to  9 straight days of working on the house starting Saturday.  With much of the ancillary work completed we can really focus now on installing plasterboard.  Expect to see a pile of plasterboard installed in the next  blog.

Cladding Finished

The final piece of cladding went on today. WOOHOO.  The end of a job that rates only just behind the roof on the "Complete Bastard" scale of jobs.  Still it looks amazing. Time to move inside

Friday night we started moving the plasterboard and in a fit of madness we threw up the first board. With lots more to follow.

John the electrician came on Thursday and made a good start on the wiring.  He is back Tuesday to finish off running the wires,  Dave the plumber came Saturday and marked out all the places we need to insert trimmers in the walls to mount the taps.  He starts Sunday morning to start running the pipe work in the walls.

Its all happening.

The Big Push to End of Cladding

Another massive weekend and a bit of cladding and we can see the cladding finish line looming close.  A solid day of cladding Thursday will see the cladding completed.    The Gable ends are all enclosed and we are down to the last wall section.

We ran out of cladding boards late Sunday.  A quick call to WA Direct Plasterboard, the suppliers of the cladding and plasterboard, Monday morning saw more boards on the truck that was delivering the plasterboard that day.  So we now have a house full of insulation and plasterboard ready for us to move inside and start installing plasterboard next weekend.  John the electrician (Adelec Electrical the best sparky you could ever ask for) is coming early next week and Dave the plumber will be around soon.  If we keep working hard the April school holiday move in date is still achievable

More Cladding and the Big Windows

Again a big shout out to Mike Nemitz who came up to the block and helped install the big windows in the open area.  They hardest part of the operation was lifting them, they weighed a ton.  They actually slotted in pretty easily in the end.

The week saw us busy on the cladding on the back of the house.  We will be pushing hard over the weekend to finish the cladding in preparation to start working inside next week.  The plasterboard is being delivered Monday.

Cladding

Good progress on the cladding over the weekend.  The front wall and 2 end walls are now clad.  The patented Ladhams Clad2000 cladding tools are working well. We are pushing hard to be finished the cladding by the end of the week (might be a stretch goal).

Also over the weekend we got Jacks new therapy puppy Clara.  Cuteness overload.

The rain from last week swept water and sand/mud into the open septics.  These need to be cleaned out so we can connect up the plumbing and then fill them with cleanish water for the council inspection.  The job was given to the boys who revelled in the mud

Sliding Doors

Not the most productive weekend unfortunately.  Brett managed to get some small iron filings from the grinder past his glasses and into his eye.

A big shout out to Mike and Laurent who made time to come up and help put in the sliding glass doors.
